Designing Flowers for a Mountain Wedding

The couple envisioned flowers that felt joyful, romantic, and natural—reflecting the beauty of Vermont in late summer.

Their floral palette included:

  • Coral garden roses
  • Peach and blush roses
  • Bright ranunculus
  • Soft lavender blooms
  • Blue delphinium accents
  • Airy greenery
  • Seasonal garden flowers for texture and movement

The result was a colorful design that complemented the mountains without competing with them.

A Floral Ceremony Arch with Mountain Views

One of the most striking features of the day was the floral ceremony arch overlooking the mountains.

The Barn at Smugglers’ Notch features substantial timber beams that create an impressive structure for floral installations. Designing on a scale that matched the venue allowed the flowers to feel abundant while still letting the incredible mountain backdrop remain the focal point.

When the rain finally eased enough for installation, everything came together just in time for guests to enjoy the ceremony outdoors.

(This is a great place for photos of the ceremony arch.)

Rain Didn’t Stop the Celebration

One of the realities of being a Vermont wedding florist is preparing for every kind of weather.

On this wedding day, rain arrived just before setup began. Rather than rushing to install flowers that could have been damaged, we carefully unloaded everything and waited for the weather to cooperate before completing the ceremony installation.

Those extra moments of patience helped ensure every arrangement looked fresh and beautiful once guests arrived. It’s one of the many reasons experience matters when planning an outdoor Vermont wedding—having a florist who knows how to adapt while protecting delicate blooms can make all the difference.

Reception Flowers Inside the Barn

Inside the barn, long wooden farmhouse tables were styled with delicate bud vases filled with colorful seasonal flowers.

The simple floral styling complemented the rustic architecture while adding softness and color throughout the reception space. By allowing each bloom its own moment, the tables felt relaxed, elegant, and full of movement.

The staircase was also dressed with lush greenery, welcoming guests into the reception with a timeless garden-inspired look.
