Some love stories are timeless, and some moments are meant to be remembered forever. That’s exactly what we set out to capture in this Notebook-inspired engagement and wedding editorial, photographed by Allison Clarke Photography at a private residence near Portsmouth, New Hampshire.
Inspired by the sweeping romance of the film, we wanted to create an editorial that felt cinematic, dreamy, and filled with the little details that make love stories unforgettable. The waterside setting, garden-inspired flowers, and vintage details created the perfect backdrop for both engagement-inspired portraits and wedding moments.
Bringing The Notebook to Life Through Design
Getting to create this shoot was such a joy. We wanted it to feel like a true love story unfolding. Quiet, emotional, and timeless, but also playful and full of color.
Every design choice was intentional. This included the wedding flowers, stationery, vintage styling details, and the way each scene connected to the story.
The shoot featured two distinct wedding color palettes. One was soft and timeless in white, a nod to romance in its purest form. The other was playful and expressive, with shades of peach, blue, lavender, and pink. These colors brought a sense of summer, joy, and the vibrant feeling of a love story that still feels alive decades later.
The setting was a private residence near Portsmouth. Because it was near the water, it gave the editorial a natural New England coastal feeling. It was a beautiful reminder that coastal-inspired wedding design does not have to be overly nautical. Instead, soft colors, natural textures, garden flowers, and a connection to the water can create a romantic coastal aesthetic.
Romantic Wedding Florals With a Vintage Touch
The wedding florals played a starring role in telling the story. One of our favorite elements was a vintage bicycle with a basket overflowing with garden flowers. It felt whimsical, nostalgic, and perfectly romantic. It was like a stolen moment on a country road, reminiscent of Noah and Allie’s carefree adventures.
It was perfect timing when we were shooting the bike scene on the dirt road and a vintage VW Beetle drove by. Those unexpected moments are often what make a styled shoot feel like a real story unfolding rather than a collection of planned photographs.
We also brought in a canoe decorated with flowers. This was another direct nod to one of the most iconic scenes in The Notebook. With lush blooms spilling over the edges, it became more than just a prop. It was a symbol of romance, adventure, and the idea that love is meant to be an unforgettable journey.
The floral details throughout the shoot were intentionally loose, garden-inspired, and full of movement. Rather than creating a formal or overly polished look, we wanted the flowers to feel as though they belonged naturally in the landscape.
Wedding Stationery That Tells a Love Story
Stationery has the power to set the tone for a wedding day before guests even arrive. For this Notebook-inspired wedding shoot, we envisioned stationery that felt romantic, nostalgic, and timeless, just like the love story itself.

Every invitation suite, save the date, and menu has the ability to become part of a couple’s legacy. These are the pieces they may look back on years later with the same fondness they have for their photographs.

ENGAGEMENT MOMENTS WITH A NEW ENGLAND FEEL
Because this editorial included both engagement-inspired and wedding moments, we had the opportunity to explore a more relaxed side of the love story as well.
The vintage bicycle, dirt road, canoe, and waterside setting created moments that felt natural and playful. Together, these details showed how engagement photography and wedding design can work together to tell a more complete story.
